MEDOC & HAUT MEDOC

Area introduction

Some of the most prized Cabernet Sauvignon based wines are produced in the Medoc (left bank of the river Dordogne). Producers from Medoc and Haut Medoc are allowed to use all the varietals from Bordeaux (Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Carmenere, Petit Verdot and Malbec). There is 2 levels of wine in these 2 appelations, the first one is Medoc and Haut Medoc and the 2nd one is Cru Bourgeois which are wines part of an official ranking.
